WE MISS YOU, FREDDIE MERCURY

(in English below)

65 years ago today that Freddie Mercury was born.
With the new working conditions dictated by the almighty “market laws” and interpreted here in Spain so faithfully  by a party that once was socialist, he could’nt have retired yet.

Called Farrokh Bulsara, he was born in a circumstancial way in Zanzibar, the capital of the island with the same name (his father was a diplomatic in the -at that time- British protectorate). In fact, in 2006, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of his birth, they had to cancel the big concert that was planned due to fundamentalist pressures because “his homosexuality contradicts the sharia. Moreover, the association of Mercury with Zanzibar degrades our island, which is part of Islam. ”
When he was 8 was posted to study in India (the country from originally were his family), and soon became known among his boarding school mates as Freddie, getting even adopted the name by his family. The Mercury did’nt come until the early 70s when he composed one of the first songs of the recently created Queen Band, “My Fairy King“, in which the verse “Mercury Mother, look what they’ve done to me,” sang about his mother and he thought that, besides a tribute, the Mercury had punch.
Despite having learned to play guitar and piano, which played regularly at the concerts, his breathtaking artistic personality was manifested gloriously when he took the microphone and surrounded the stage absolutely devoted to his fundamental role: solist singer of the band , often theatrical and extravagant. Seeing him on stage, nobody would have said that he was considered himself a shy and reserved person (in fact, he did ‘nt like interviews).
His prodigious tenor voice, which was able to rise up to the highest notes if necessary, was like the house brand of one of the most popular rock bands of the history (though his creations have always stylistically exceeded this “cliché” with perfectly clear incursions from the hard rock and even heavy metal, up to symphonic rock or glam).
The statistics are terrifying: more than 300 million records sold, the song Bohemian Rhapsody , considered by many critics as the best song in history, absolute records of attendants to their live concerts … ..
One of the latest (and in my opinion, of the best) creations of Freddie, Barcelona,  was performed with the soprano Montserrat Caballe and then was elected to represent the Olympic Games of this city in 1992, which unfortunately he could no longer interpret, due to his premature death on 24 November 1991, at age 45
